Ban Makrud School
Ban Makrud is a small school in Kanthararom with only 26 children aged between 4-12
years. After finishing grade 7 in the school, the children set off to high schools where they continue their schooling till their final year. Only two qualified teachers are assigned to the school with two more helpers (non-qualified teachers) employed by the Department of Education as casual labourers.
We volunteered to help with Basic English communication to the kids in June 2017 and we spend two days per week with the children till August 2019. We used Bible verses and Bible stories, not just to learn Basic English Communication but also at the same time evangelising to them . . . and the teachers. It was wonderful reaching out to this school and the small community with God’s love, compassion and care.
After our first year of helping at the school, we launched a project to completely revamp the school with the message on how God takes the old and make the new ones you come to salvation. The school really needed a revamp and we could see and experienced how everyone were getting excited to see the “new school”. Even the community where the school is located were very excited. After the revamp, which took a month of hard labour, two teachers were “secretly” going to a Christian Fellowship group led by a Philippine Missionary who stayed in their province for they stayed quite far away from the school. By the time we left Kanthararom, they were still going to the fellowship every Friday night. We later heard how they accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
We left Kantahararom in September 2019 and still have contact with the teachers and children today.
Ezekiel 36:26 – Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
